TSCB recognises the importance of keeping practitioners up to date with the latest research, knowledge and best practice available in safeguarding children and young people and will update the Learning Zone pages with resources to support learning and personal development in this area.
One of the most effective ways of developing safeguarding skills and knowledge is through a shared understanding of safeguarding; this is best achieved by bringing practitioners together through inter agency training.
Research for the DCSF found that 'The opportunity to learn together (on inter-agency training) is greatly valued; participants report increased confidence in working with colleagues from other agencies greater mutual respect'
It also found 'inter-agency training is highly effective in helping professionals understand their respective roles and responsibilities, the procedures of each agency involved in safeguarding children and in developing a shared understanding of assessment and decision making practices'.
Carpenter et al (2009) The Organisation, Outcomes and Costs of Inter-agency Training to Safeguard and promote the welfare of children. London: Department for Children, Schools and Families.
TSCB offers all practitioners (paid / voluntary) this valuable opportunity to learn together through a variety of different safeguarding courses (please see training section). TSCB courses are delivered by skilled practitioners from all agencies in Tameside and last year over 1800 practitioners from all over Tameside benefited from attending TSCB training.
Our aim is that by learning to work together more effectively we can safeguard and promote the welfare of children and young people in Tameside.
