Non-government Reports

There are many non-government organisations that produce reports that can inform safeguarding policy and practice.

Deprivation and Risk - the case for early intervention

is a publication from Action for Children about the direct impact of deprivation on the lives of children and their families. Usually when stories are told about families in these circumstances, their problems are reduced to a single cause: irresponsibility or victimhood, a negligent or indulgent State, cultural collapse, poverty or, on occasion, acts of evil. Yet the reality is never simple. The lives of individual children and families are shaped and steered by a complex interplay of policy initiatives, personal experience and local resources.

Safeguarding Children and Young People - A Toolkit for General Practice

General Practitioners (GPs) and their teams sit at the centre of healthcare in the National Health Service. They are uniquely placed to recognise and act upon concerns for the well-being of children. The Royal College of General Practitioners (RCGP) and the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (NSPCC) have worked collaboratively to produce the Safeguarding Children and Young People Toolkit.  The Toolkit was originally produced in 2007, and has now been revised in 2009.  The Toolkit is intended to support GPs throughout the UK who wish to increase their awareness and skills regarding Child Protection.
