This is a multi-agency course which aims to explore best practice in Child Protection and develop improved Working Together arrangements with children and their families. All practitioners who could become members of a Core Group for a child on a Child Protection Plan should attend this course. The course material is based on national guidance, research evidence and Greater Manchester Child Protection Procedures.

Target Audience: Groups 3-8

This course is designed to follow on from the Foundation Course – Working Together in Child Protection. It is aimed at professionals who work directly with children who have child protection plans. Managers and practitioners who are involved in child protection planning would benefit from this course.

Course Content

The course involves some PowerPoint presentation(s), group work and an experiential case study around Child Protection Planning.

In particular the course covers:

  • Legislation and guidance – Learning from Practice (Serious Case Reviews)
  • Assessing motivation and commitment towards change
  • Key principles in working together – shared responsibility and specialist skills
  • Best practice in Child Protection Planning and core group working.
  • Involving children and families in Child Protection Planning.
  • Assessment & Management of Risk

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course you will:

  • Developed skills in child protection planning and safeguarding practice.
  • Considered best practice in Core Groups and in achieving positive outcomes for children and families.
  • Explored Risk Assessment & Management of Risk via a Child Protection Plan & Core Group Working.
  • Developed knowledge of how to involve children and families in Child Protection Planning and how to ensure the voice of the child is heard.
  • Used a model for achieving & managing change with children and families.

TSCB minimum standards for basic single agency safeguarding children awareness raising training are designed to assure that relevant training across all agencies and services in Tameside is delivered to a consistently high standard. They will be utilised by the Learning Improvement and Activity Sub- Group to quality assure relevant training. It should be noted that basic single agency awareness training should not be utilised to negate the requirement for professionals or volunteers in Tameside, whose work brings them into with children and their families, from acquiring or refreshing their Multi-Agency safeguarding knowledge via TSCB’s Multi-Agency Training Offer.
