Sexual Exploitation for young people is a reality in the UK and happens in Tameside. Teenagers (and sometimes younger children) are vulnerable to this abuse and need protection and support. This course will enable practitioners to recognise the signs of CSE; understand why it happens and develop skills in Safeguarding children exploited in this way.

Target Audience: Groups 3-8

This one day-course will benefit all staff working directly with young people and families. Child sexual exploitation can occur in a wide range of settings. It will be of particular interest to those working with young people who are considered vulnerable – for example, children in care.

Course Content

In the course there will be specialist input from the facilitator, Ann Potter. There is also video and case study material to be considered via group work.

In particular the course covers:

  • Legislation and Guidance - what our focus should be.
  • What is Sexual Exploitation?
  • How young people become involved.
  • How to recognise young people who are vulnerable.
  • What to do to safeguard and support young people.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course you will:

  • An understanding of Sexual Exploitation and the abuse involved.
  • An awareness of crucial legislation and guidance in this area.
  • An understanding of how young people become involved.
  • An ability to recognise vulnerability and signs of involvement.
  • Knowledge of what to do if you suspect a young person is being sexually exploited.
  • An understanding of the support needs of the Young People who are Sexually Exploited.

TSCB minimum standards for basic single agency safeguarding children awareness raising training are designed to assure that relevant training across all agencies and services in Tameside is delivered to a consistently high standard. They will be utilised by the Learning Improvement and Activity Sub- Group to quality assure relevant training. It should be noted that basic single agency awareness training should not be utilised to negate the requirement for professionals or volunteers in Tameside, whose work brings them into with children and their families, from acquiring or refreshing their Multi-Agency safeguarding knowledge via TSCB’s Multi-Agency Training Offer.
