Government Guidance relating to the Coronavirus

In view of current Government Guidance relating to the Coronavirus Tameside Safeguarding Children Partnership have suspended all Multi-Agency Training Courses until the end of May 2020 when the situation will be reviewed. Learners should not attempt to book onto any courses from June 2020 onwards until a decision has been made for the courses to continue and this will be communicated as soon as the decision is made.

In the meantime alternative methods of training delivery will be considered and communicated when known.

Additional e-learning modules, resources & guidance during Coronavirus measures

Tameside Safeguarding Children Partnership has suspended all Multi-Agency Training until the end of May 2020 when the decision will be reviewed. As an interim measure we would like to make available to the workforce a number of free national resources, which can be found on the E-Learning page.

Working Together to Safeguard Children - Foundation Course

Introductory Course

This is a one day Introductory Course aimed at anyone who works with children and/or their families in Tameside. Please note that prior to applying there is a requirement for applicants to have successfully completed an e-learning module, ‘Safeguarding Children – Level 1’. Once you have completed the requisite e-learning module, please ensure you complete your face-to-face booking via your TSCB Learner Account. Once this is authorised by your manager, your place on the course is secured.


The consolidation of prior e-learning and reinforce effective Multi-Agency practice in Tameside to safeguard and promote the well being of children and young people.

Course Content:

  • Safeguarding in the national & local context.
  • Safeguarding children in specific circumstances.
  • Greater Manchester and Tameside policy, procedure and guidance.
  • Levels of need and thresholds of intervention.
  • Responding to concerns about abuse and making a referral.
  • Child Protection Investigation process.
  • Purpose & process of an Initial Child Protection Process.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course you will:

  • Recall the national and local context of vulnerable children.
  • Recognise children who require safeguarding in specific circumstances.
  • Know about local procedures and guidance for safeguarding children.
  • Describe Tameside’s levels of need and response.
  • Know what to do if you are worried that a child is being abused.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the knowledge and skills required for working together in safeguarding and promoting the continued wellbeing of children.
  • Describe the purpose and process of an Initial Child Protection Conference.

TSCP minimum standards for basic single agency safeguarding children awareness raising training are designed to assure that relevant training across all agencies and services in Tameside is delivered to a consistently high standard. They will be utilised by the Learning Improvement and Activity Sub- Group to quality assure relevant training. It should be noted that basic single agency awareness training should not be utilised to negate the requirement for professionals or volunteers in Tameside, whose work brings them into with children and their families, from acquiring or refreshing their Multi-Agency safeguarding knowledge via TSCP’s Multi-Agency Training Offer.
